Ask station range

The base station does not extend to our outdoor cameras. Do I need a separate base station for them

carmengarieri,

Unfortunately since the Base Station is the central hub, it isn't possible to have more than one per system. The sensors do have a range of around 800ft over open air when connecting to the Base Station, though.

But the Outdoor Cameras also have to connect to the service directly through your home's WiFi, and that might be the limiting factor here, since the 2.4GHz signal can typically reach only 150ft. Using a WiFi extender might help that a little bit.

I hate hate hate that you all phrase it like this. Quick question, who lives in a house large enough that they can walk 800 feet in a straight line from their base station to a sensor? None of us.

Please consider changing this to something more reasonable as this sets up unrealistic expectations for sure. (For example, I can stop all communications between the base station and an entry sensor at 65 feet with a single piece of thin metal.) At least consider changing it to "up to 800 feet in perfect/optimal conditions (that won't exist in literally anyone's house)".

@Worthing its a standard. 800 feet over open air states the maximum. Got it.  I have installed over a dozen systems and the distance varies greatly between each installation.  For my own house, I have sensors in the garage, basement, 1st and 2nd floors (2600 sq ft approximately for the 1st and 2nd floor, add basement) and my 40+ senso system works just fine. My daughter's house with a two car detached garage, built in 1926 with plaster walls and all connect fine.  An install I did on my friend's 3 story towhhouse, fine, and their son and daughter-in-laws 1960's ranch for 1800 sq feet and we had to move the base 8 ways to Sunday to get all of the sensors to perform okay.

I would like to see SS's markeing dept change the x cents per day monitoring fee phrasing and just show the monthly fee.

Then they should say 'up to' as I suggested since it's the maximum and not what everyone will get. As phrased, it sounds a lot like that's what people can expect. Would a reasonable person assume this? Probably not. Is the world full of only reasonable people? Absolutely not.

They could avoid some support heartache and some customer heartache by qualifying their statements a bit instead of going with one size fits all marketing speak. :)
