Motion Sensor Problem

I just installed entry sensors and motion sensor. The system works pretty well expect for the motion sensor which you have to get pretty close to for it to set off the alarm. Anybody know why the motion sensor is not working well. It is at the suggested height.

I called SimpliSafe and was helped quickly.

We did the following:
Set sensitivity to high. Switch is in the sensor.
Take the battery out and put it back in.

What actually worked was leaving the room before the system alarmed. When I came back in the room the system detected me.

Hi  joseph.kowalews...,

Yep. So what's happening there is that the Motion Sensor is really more of a "heat-motion" sensor - it looks for moving hotspots in a room. In order to do that, the sensor needs a minute or so to "scan" the room and get a read of the ambient temperature.

Also important to note: pressing the Test Button on the Motion Sensor itself also lowers the threshold for detection. So it's a little easier to test, but isn't quite the same as the real deal.

@davey_d -  in regards to your comment: pressing the Test Button on the Motion Sensor itself also lowers the threshold for detection. So it's a little easier to test, but isn't quite the same as the real deal... does that mean that the motion sensors are more or less sensitive when in test mode vs away mode?

@molsad it's more sensitive, and actually less accurate as well. Good enough for testing, but if the system was armed, it would be more likely to generate false alarms.
