Set up system, worked for a bit, then Power Outage until I upgraded

I set up my system and everything was working fine. Did not have the upgraded plan. A few hours later, I see in-app "Power Outage" except there is no power outage at my home. I trouble shoot, the customer service person says they'll send out a new power adapter. I upgrade my service to the $24/mo package and miraculously the system's "Power Outage" notification is GONE! Is this seriously a way for the company to make additional dollars to get everyone to upgrade?

So was it fixed without the upgrade and just the new power supply? Did they tell you to upgrade to get rid of the outage notification?
