SimpliCam-Baby Monitor?

Hi I'm wondering if anyone has used the camera as a baby monitor and would you recommend it as such?  Thank you ahead of time.

I would not.  It uses a lot of bandwidth, and is an "on request" system, not a continuous one.  That is, you would need to remember to check on the baby every so often, and hope that anything amiss happens during those times and not between them.

Isn't that how it works, generally, with or without a camera?

Unless you have the baby at your side 24/7 you have to remember/go to check every so often anyway.

The on-demand nature is a point of consideration but whether it's a show stopper depends on use. To me it seems of some value to be able to have a quick look in capability duing nap time or whatever. There are less expensive WiFi cams that do a pretty good job, good as, better in some regards having remote pan and tilt capability. But, you still need to open an app to view the cam unless you'd set up a dedicated, live video monitor system. And, they don't tie into the SS system but they generally do facilitate email notices for motion detection.

Far as bandwidth, I have several 2MP IP security cams running @ 10fps. Each cam is streaming at ~4Mb/S. Of course higher resolution and or higher frame rate would increase that. Even for baby monitoring dunno that one would need more than 10-15fps.

I would want video/audio streamed 24/7, along with "event" notification, from a dedicated device.  If I'm going to monitor a baby, I want him/her fully monitored.

Something I have to "request" to get a look in is not a "baby monitor" although it may be adequate for some people's desires.

If you've got that speed of upload, more power to you.  I am supposed to have 1Mbs, and am lucky to get 1/3 of that.  Needless to say, my video is not reliable, being either a still frame or delayed minutes.

So you're going to carry a live video monitor on your hip? My IP security cams run and record 24/7/365 and will send motion alerts and snapshots, but you still have to open an app to view live video on your phone or on another computer. Or, leave the console open on the NVR to live view all the time. The latter is certainly possible but I'd expect the point of monitoring is to free you up to do a bit more around the house, not tie you to a video monitor.

And, yes, my upload is 10Mb/s nominal, usually it runs 11-ish. I'm surprised at the speed you mentioned. I thought this upload was at the low end these days. It's a 200/10 connection...the lowest I can get from Charter/Spectrum.

If I'm monitoring a baby, yes.  Or have it up on TV's on  the wall like I have my DVR based cameras.

DSL is pretty limited on upload.

I guess we'll have to let the OP decide the nature of the desired monitoring. For me I see it as supplemental and the 10-15 seconds it takes to open the SS app from scratch and start a live view isn't a big deal; probably faster than physically going to make another spot check, so probably why my opinion differs. Far as I know, there is no time limit for live view so it could be left open, or at least leave the app open. That would cut the time to live view in at least half if not by 2/3. Perhaps, ultimately, there may be a better tool but in the long run you'd still have a SS cam to use rather than something for the garage sale a few years.

Anyway, FWIW, my network traffic monitor says SimpliCam runs about 1.15Mb/s. In the big picture that's not a lot of bandwidth but as you indicate individual circumstances may vary.

I wouldn't, it really slows down the internet connection. It's better to buy a baby monitor that works properly, besides, there are usually some useful functions like night vision and adjustable audio volume. I can recommend this website with reviews on baby monitors, it helped me quite a lot.
