Sliding patio doors

I have 6 large sliding glass patio doors, one regular entry way door from the front of the house, a door from the attached garage, 2 basement windows and 2 kitchen windows.? Would I need entry sensors for each patio door or can I use a glassbreak sensor on these?

@ klingpad, I would use both. Layers of protection is key, and since the entry sensors are 14.99, not a bad deal. If this is more money than you want to spend at once, go glass breaks and add the entry sensors later.  Be forewarned I have a neighbor where they were robbed during the day and it was definitely a professional job per the police. They used a glass cutter on their slider and then just opened the door lock.

In my house I have entry sensors, glass breaks on the bay and half glass doors and motions, including on the 2nd floor. (Motions only on upstairs when in away mode).  Yes, possibly a bit much, but I do sleep soundly at night.

Hello all!

I wholeheartedly agree with the Captain - having layers of security is a great idea. But if you have a room with many windows, we would suggest a Glassbreak Sensor and a Motion Sensor combo to cover the whole room.

One thing to add: if you have double sliding glass doors (or indeed, double-panel windows), it's possible to install just the one Entry Sensor to cover both pieces. The trick is to place the magnet so that it slides between the panels when the doors slide open. This window animation shows the same concept:

If you have a particularly tight space, give our Support team a call at 800-548-9508 and ask about Slim Magnets!

Captain, I know every single one of your neighbors has SS, because knowing you, well...lol

Anyway, did the neighbor have SS, and if so, did he not have a motion sensor in the room?

That's pretty ballsy using a glass cutter, I hope they catch the thief and neighbor can get his belongings back!

@coltmaster1, only 4 of my neighbors within 3 blocks have SS. This one particular neighbor had my favorite security system, ADT.  You know, the one with the "free" system, and of course, was bare bones with an entry sensor.on the one side and that's it. No motion.  Layers are important.

Oh no, poor guy!  I'm guessing he also got the famous ADT run-around.
