Warning entry sensor open error

Anyone got any tips to stop this.

I've moved my base station multiple times over the months and in the past 1 month its nothing but issues.

Entry sensor warning over and over on different sensors. It's not the location of the base station I have determined that.

Every time all I do is open the entry point close it and it self fixes it but its absolutely no use when I'm not at home.

Getting seriously hacked off with it now

Entry Sensor Open means that your Entry Sensor is currently unable to detect its magnet. If you are sure that your door or window is not open, and the message persists, there may be an issue with how the sensor is set up. Please visit our Help Center here for troubleshooting.

Curious why you conclude it's not location if that's the only thing that's changed?

Moved the base station when it first started putting it into the room where it was happening...

Still happened.  Then didnt . Then happened in another room... moved station... then happened....  repeat...

I am assuming you have a new battery in the sensor...

Maybe there is something electrical in the wall near the sensor - perhaps if you move it from the top of the door to the side?

Don't know - just tossing out ideas...

This happens to me on occasion, but generally no more than one sensor at a time (at most, I've had two sensors report open at the same time).

First, examine your door/window sensors and determine the sensors are no further apart than about 1 1/2 inches from their magnets (despite SS's recommendations of no more than 2 inches, even shorter than that is ideal)

What I've determined is that over the course of a day, windows or doors get opened (in OFF mode), and someone goes around and closes everything before arming.  But, sometimes, a window or door prior has only been opened slightly to begin with, making the sensor being in "open" state, so that when you go to close it an arm the system, the window or door is still in open state because you actually didn't have it opened "enough" for the sensor to recognize "closed" position.  Hope this makes sense, lol.

Also, don't close doors or windows too quickly, I've found that a sensor or two misses the mark and thinks it's still in open state because it was closed too quickly - I've trained myself to watch the blue LED lights and their sequence.

It still could be your base station needs to be more centralized in the home (and try to keep your router at a distance from the base station, and in another room).  Once you can determine it is in the ideal position, test your problem sensors in test mode to get an idea if they are working correctly.  You can also reboot your base station to see if that helps.  If you haven't changed your sensor batteries in over a year, might want to try replacing them in the problem sensors and testing them.  Typically, the sensor batteries should last far longer than a year, but it's really anyone's guess how long, dependent upon usage.

Beyond that, maybe call SS and ask them if your base station was already preinstalled with the 4G SIM module when you bought it - if not, you might need the new one for better coverage.

Thank you Colt and I hope you are doing well.

There about an inch to inch and half apart but not perfect as due to the curved nature of the frames there is a small dip.  I will put them all in different positions to see what happens. Will be big job as will need to unscrew them all but will do it.

I am not sure it will work as I have even had a motion sensor become unresponsive which is the biggest issue the "sensor not responding"  although it did decide to upgrade itself recently to "open" even though the window in question hasn't been opened in about a year so I have no idea what that's all about.

Re the base station... have you even had it behind a tv. Not RIGHT behind it but about 2 foot back.. I dont have it there but its probably the only place left to try! But probably the most central area to put it as the tv sits in front of the stairs so there is a large gap under the stairs where I could place it and would be central to entire bottom level of house - only issue... the router is in that room but about 10-12 feet away

Edit - seen in instructions not to put in immediate vicinity of tv ! There goes that idea!!!

Update - 100% not the location of sensors

That's my backdoor error last night at 4.26am waking me up not responding ...

Sensor is flush . Back door has been locked for a year as use patio door at back to exit.

Honestly sick of it. Calling SS again...

Something far wrong with this

Swap one of your other entry sensors and see if the problem moves with the swap.  If so a defective sensor an easy fix and probably a warranty replacement.

Maybe interference, Dandy...remember when you had some problems with the xbox? (or something similar) - that was interference at that time, and no, don't put the base too close to the tv.

The more you've updated on this, the more it sounds like either interference, or perhaps something wrong with the base station (make sure SS confirms that the SIM card does or does not need replacing), otherwise during troubleshooting, ask if a new base station might be necessary (again, make sure it has the SIM you need, and that SS activates it!).

I just started having the same issue with an entry sensor on my shed door which is about 75 feet from the base station.  I swapped the sensor from the back door and it showed Open all the time as well. The shed door sensor has worked perfectly for the past 6 years so I know it's not the distance that's the problem. I even changed the battery, got the same results.

Is it possible that a recent software update is causing this problem?

Colt you have a good memory !!!! That was a year ago!

Yes I uninstalled every sensor then put them all back in and not had a single error since !

Good point re the cellular. Yeah I switched off wifi and its showing as "connected" so that part seems fine

Route 66 Guy, it's not likely an update issue, but rather, a sensor issue (or location).  Sometimes a sensor can be in the same location for ages, and suddenly will throw an error or act as you describe - it could be that the battery only needs to be re-seated, or a new one put in, or adjusting the sensor and magnet location, and testing to see if the slightly changed alteration fixed it.  Otherwise, could be a sensor going bad, call SS for a replacement if within the 3-yr warranty.

Dandy, hope that fixed the issue!  If it happens again, call SS and ask about the base station.

I tried swapping it with another sensor and had the same problem.  Last night when I checked my system I had another entry sensor show Open when it was closed.  Opening the door resulted in no chime coming from the Base station. I went and re-booted my router and then sensor started working normally again.  Today I will re-install the shed sensor and see if it will work again.  I may try disabling the router and see if the system works or not.  This is the first issue I have ever had with my SimpliSafe system in over 7 years of being a customer.  I still have a feeling it is somehow a software problem and not a hardware problem.

Today I reinstalled the Entry Sensor on my shed and it's been working fine ever since I last re-booted my router.  Why would the router have anything to do with the sensors communicating with the Base Station??  All sensors up and running just fine now.

To me it was as simple as uninstall and install and router was nothing in my situation

Yet again....

Entry sensor error

When again the sensor is responsive.

Opened window and siren chimed so it IS responsive yet the error appears again. Again I have removed it. Took battery out. Uninstalled it. Reinstalled it.  And we go on.

Have told SS to send me new batteries.

Cant think of anything else it could be :-(

So frustrating its every week now
