Outdoor Cameras Tough in the Chicagoland Winter!

So far this winter my two outdoor cameras continue to operate well beyond the official Simplisafe specs. With absolute temperatures down to -10 and wind chills of -25, they work great through the cold, sleet and snow.  Both are powered with the optional AC power cables so I won't be up on a ladder replacing batteries. New firmware updated yesterday successfully 1.6 and do appear to load faster. Now SS, how about the signal tool that's available on the door camera and Simplicams??

Captain11, Good to know. My cameras are still on 1.44, hopeful they will update soon. My solar panel continue to charge at below 32 degrees.

@tls Your information on the solar panel working fine in a colder environment is important too. Suggest that Simplisafe keep track, and encourage, customers to report this information on a regular basis.  Such info can be helpful in future product designs.  BTW, how cold has it been with the panel and what is the expected low this winter?

Wow you're lucky.  Yesterday my (replacement) outdoor camera failed to power on after replacing the battery.  I wonder if it was a failed firmware update.  We did all the usual reset, remove from system, different battery, etc..  The agent on the phone blamed it on the cold (20F)...sigh

@gregter As mine are connected all of the time to AC, I can't really give you a factual answer, but this is one of the reasons I never would have a battery only outdoor camera, regardless who made it. Chicagoland winters (and many others) just get too cold for reliable, consistent battery operation, even in this day and age.  The 20 degrees is within the claimed operating range of the camera so the agent can't blame the cold. It appears tls camera is working fine in this temperature range with a solar panel per tls's post. You may want to consider the solar panel or the AC option.  I can tell you from my personal experience so far that the AC kit is extremely heavy duty, well made and works on my two cameras.  (Now that I said that, I hope they continue to do so. :-)  -12 last night with a balmy wind chill of -25 brrrrrrr.
