Power Outage Reconnect Hierarchy

When the base station and wireless cameras have been connected to a particular wireless network, and then there is a power and or internet outage, there should be software written by smart people to tell all these devices(base and cameras) to wait and reconnect to the original wifi network to which they were previously connected, not just try to reconnect to some other random or available at this time wifi network. Please someone program this. I dont need my base station and cameras trying to reconnect to someone else's wifi network or one of my extenders that have a specific purpose.

Hi @dschrode ,

The Base Station, and all of our camera models, are able to connect to only one WiFi network at a time. Indeed, to switch to a different network would require going into the settings and manually setting it up. So if there was ever a power outage, all of these devices would try to reconnect to the same network - assuming that network is available.

@davey_d So if that is correct, which I have concerns that it is not, why did my base station not reconnect to my wifi network(to which it was originally connected BY ME) and instead connect to a wifi extender that it had never been connected to??????? just curious

Does that WiFi extender use the same SSID/password as your main network? WiFi devices in general don't connect to specific devices; rather, they look for those credentials and will just try to connect to whichever access point has the strongest signal.

No it does not. Which is my point. Software should be written to force the base station and cameras to reconnect to the SSID with the same password to which they were just connected.

That's what is puzzling. As I said, all of our components that use WiFi are designed to only connect to one network at a time. It's not possible for them to connect to any other networks nearby unless you removed the original network from the device memory and added that second one.

For now, I would suggest that you delete the network from your Base Station, and re-add it (through the Keypad Menu's System Settings section). Hopefully that locks it down.

Let's assume it was possible to connect to more than one network (it's not) how could it connect to another network w/o knowing the credentials to authenticate to that new network?
